You want to thrive, not just survive

THERAPY FOR WOMEN’S ISSUES

Addressing mental health issues specifically for women in-person in Overland Park, KS and online throughout Kansas

As women, so much is expected of us.

Are you juggling so many balls that you are feeling overwhelmed, burned out or full of self-doubt?   Does social media make you feel pressure to be perfect? Or maybe you are a people pleaser or a perfectionist who has difficulty saying “no,” and this leaves you feeling unfulfilled by your relationships. You want so much to be able to show up as yourself and belong., but high expectations of yourself have crowded out the joy in your life. What is expected of you can leave you feeling like life is impossibly out of balance

Maybe you are struggling with:

  • Low self-esteem, comparing yourself to others and feeling like you just don’t measure up

  • Navigating life as a single woman

  • Expressing yourself authentically AND setting healthy boundaries

  • Motherhood challenge, including stepmothering

  • Balancing your work and home life

  • Betrayal and loss wondering who and how to trust again

  • Midlife adjustments leaving you feeling empty and unsure

Maybe you have had ENOUGH of the struggle, but you feel guilty taking care of yourself. Ready to put some of those balls down and invest in yourself?

    I can help you.

You can feel more confident and be more authentic.

Whether you are struggling with navigating your relationships, want help dealing with life’s challenges, or are going through a life transition, I am here to help you sort through it all. We will work together to identify the narratives you have about yourself and life in general and find out how those narratives came about. Have there been difficult experiences in your life you have not processed? We can process them together. Do you find yourself stuck in patterns you learned from your family of origin or past relationships? If so, we will work together to find new patterns that work better for you.

I will work to understand your goals for therapy, and we will identify a plan together about how you can meet those goals through using your strengths and developing new ones. Your work with me will help you to quiet your inner critic, transform your interactions with others, and help you gain greater confidence and security in yourself.

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Common questions about women’s therapy

  • I work with women on a wide variety of issues related specifically to women. These issues include: relationships, anxiety and overwhelm, self-esteem and self-confidence, issues related to childbirth, motherhood challenges, sexuality, caregiving, work/life balance, and gender stereotypes/roles.

  • Women experience biological, societal, and psychological challenges that are related specifically to gender. Women also struggle with gender stereotypes in the workplace and within their families that can impact their mental health throughout the lifespan. Working with a therapist who is well-versed in these challenges and will help tailor the therapy process to these unique challenges is very important.

  • A support network of friends is very important when you are struggling, and there are immense benefits to being able to talk with friends openly and freely. A therapist is trained to help clients develop coping skills and challenge beliefs about themselves. A therapist can offer a neutral, non-judgmental, confidential place to explore yourself without impacting a friendship.

  • At this time, I do not have any women’s therapy groups. However, if I see a large interest in that, I am willing to explore starting a group.

  • I do work with men, yes, but my primary specialty is with women’s issues. Men struggle with mental health as well, and if there is room in my schedule, I am happy to work with male clients. Your partner is more than welcome to attend your individual sessions occasionally to offer support. I also offer therapy for couples.
